At the age of 27, Marcie Allen has already experienced many facets of the music industry. She started booking bands for her sorority while attending Rhodes College in Memphis, TN. During her junior year, she was awarded an internship at Cellar Door Concerts in Washington, D.C. by Dave Williams, former President of Cellar Door, who was to become her friend and her mentor. Young and eager, she worked the inaugural season at Nissan Pavilion at Stone Ridge as Asst. Director of Corporate Sales. After the season was over, she was moved into the Cellar Door offices as assistant to talent buyers, Geoff Gordon, Drew Pompilio, Brian O'Connell, and Chris Tanner. She was later promoted to Director of Marketing/Promotions for the Bayou and the Capitol Ballroom (now known as Nation's). After almost three years, she decided to move back home to be with her family in Nashville, TN. In 1997, Marcie joined the William Morris Agency as assistant to Steve Lassiter. After leaving William Morris and after a short stint at a small, local college booking agency, Marcie, with the help of her father, Rogan Allen, decided to start her own company out of her dining room with two telephones, a fax machine, and a computer. Her one staff member was Maddy, a new puppy named after the newly formed company. In less than two years, Mad Booking has outgrown Marcie's dining room table and has moved into its own building on Music Row. Marcie is a native of Nashville, TN and was raised by her grandparents, Nancy and Hoss Allen. Hoss Allen was the legendary rhythm and blues Disc Jockey from WLAC Radio in Nashville. He was a pioneer in playing the blues (all black music) on an all white radio station in the 1950s and 1960s, and was instrumental in breaking the careers of artists such as James Brown and B.B. King. Her aunt, Bebe Evans, who has worked with The Charlie Daniels Band for over 20 years, was the person in her life that said "stay at Cellar Door, you don't need to finish college," and has encouraged and helped her every stay of the way. Truly her roots are in the music industry as she is the third generation of this family to work in the business. Mad Booking got its start buying national talent for colleges across the country. As of today, some of Mad Booking's clients include: Univ of Southern California, Univ of San Diego, Murray State Univ, Clemson Univ, Georgia Tech, Stephen F. Austin Univ, Vanderbilt Univ, and Univ of Florida- Gainesville. Marcie became very involved in NACA and has served on panels at the past two national conferences. She has also recently served on panels at Pollstar CIC and the Atlantis Music Conference. In 1999, Marcie was asked to book the talent for a new festival in New Orleans - Voodoo Music Festival produced by Rehage Entertainment. Against many odds, including inclement weather, Voodoo had almost 20,000 paid for the event at Tad Gormley Stadium. The 2000 Voodoo Festival this October was a huge success, featuring artists such as Stone Temple Pilots, Live, Counting Crows and Eminem, with attendance over 65,000. This led to Mad Booking getting the talent buying position for Dancin' In The District and Uptown Mix, two free weekly events in Nashville. Attendance at Dancin' was 15,000 weekly and 7,500 at Uptown Mix. It also led to a new relationship with Rick Whetsel and Great Big Shows, who produced both events. In 2001, Mad Booking and Great Big Shows will be partners in "Dancin' In The District." Mad Booking is a full service agency with the ability to book, market and produce events. They provide talent for colleges, festivals and corporate events nationwide. Together these divisions make Mad Booking the one-stop music shop. Marcie's small but talented staff includes Sharisse Pessar, formerly with Cellar Door and SFX Nashville, Jody Hall, business manager, and Ted Chapin, formerly with CAA Nashville.
